De-Partnered by LA-ShyGuy

Making partner was never going to be easy, but Jeremy didn’t think it was going to happen so quickly. He had only been at his firm for three years, but in that time, he skyrocketed to the top winning every case he was assigned to, despite how challenging they were. Of course, this led a lot of professional jealousy, as other attorneys who had been at the firm for far longer were about to be passed up by this hotshot. Jeremy didn’t care. If he had to leap over a few peers, that was fine with him.

On the eve of the big news (rumors were rampant around the office, so everyone knew about Jeremy’s promotion), Jeremy’s colleague Dan invited him out for dinner and drinks for a special “pre-celebration.” Jeremy was thrilled that at least one person was in his corner, so he gladly jumped at the invitation. They hit up an upscale restaurant uptown and indulged. Jeremy knew he needed to be sharp for the announcement for tomorrow, so he only had one drink. As they got back to Dan’s car, Jeremy started feeling a little strange. He couldn’t be drunk, but his legs were getting a little wobbly. As he got in the passenger seat, he could barely keep his eyes open. The last thing her heard before passing out was Dan saying, “XXXX worked like a charm. I’m on my way.”

As his consciousness slowly crept back, the first this Jeremy felt was a splitting headache. Not even his worst hangover felt this bad. He slowly lifted his head and tried to move. However, his body wouldn’t comply. Opening his eyes, he started to realize why. His ankles and legs were tightly secured to the chair he was sitting in with rope. His chest was tied even tighter to the back of the chair that he could barely wiggle. As he tried moving his wrist, he quickly learned that they were being held in place behind his back with handcuffs. Screaming was also going to be useless, as some type a rag had been stuffed into his mouth and kept in place with numerous layers of duct tape around his head.

Jeremy tried to get his bearings and figure out where he had been taken. His best guess was some type of warehouse based on the empty room, dilapidated brick walls, and the industrial-looking window. The darkness outside created another realization; whatever industrial neighborhood he was being held in was likely deserted at this time of night.

Despite the hopelessness of the situation, Jeremy fought against the ropes with all his might. He knew nothing could be done about the handcuffs, but if he could get his chest or legs free, he would at least be able to maneuver his way towards the window or door. Maybe there was a security guard or someone walking by whose attention he could get. The gag would be a problem, because even his loudest screams were muffled and inaudible, but he had to try.

As the minutes crept by, Jeremy felt his energy begin to wane. Whatever chemical Dan gave him wasn’t completely out of his system, and he was still woozy as hell. He couldn’t believe this was about him making partner. If Dan thought keeping him from getting the that announcement tomorrow was going to deny him the position, he was sorely mistaken. Jeremy couldn’t wait for Dan to return and set him free. Not only was Dan’s career over, but he was going to face some serious jail time for this.

The door to the room started to open, catching Jeremy’s attention. However, it wasn’t Dan who entered the room. It was a large, hulking man with biceps the size of Jeremy’s head. Jeremy shouted to get his attention, hopeful that this guy would let him go. The man saw Jeremy and walked over.

“Hey. You’re awake,” he said very calmly. Jeremy tried saying, “Untie me” several times, which only came out as groans. The man pressed his hand against Jeremy’s gagged mouth, silencing him further.

“Look, I don’t wanna XXXX you again until I’m done, but if you keep struggling and mouthing off, you’re gonna regret it.” That told Jeremy everything he needed to know. This guy was in on it with Dan.

The man disappeared for a minute, and when he returned, he wheeled in a large crate on a dolly. It was taller than Jeremy in his currently seated position. The man lifted the top off, and the front of the crate fell to the floor, revealing a box loaded with pre-attached packing material with enough empty space to fit a chair.

Jeremy started to panic as he put the pieces together. Dan wasn’t going to let him go. Whatever he had planned was much, much worse.

Jeremy thrashed and screamed as hard as he could as the man dragged his chair towards the box. It wasn’t long before the chair was inside. The man set to work, placing thick squares of foam around Jeremy’s body and head until he was completely enveloped. Jeremy pleaded the entire time, but it was useless.

The man finally pulled a syringe out of his pocket and looked at Jeremy. “Trust me, you don’t wanna be awake for this ride.” Jeremy winced as the syringe pierced the vein in his neck for a moment, then it was done. The effects of the medicine were quick. As Jeremy started losing consciousness for the second time tonight, he watched as the hulking man sealed him inside the crate.

The last words he heard were, “Lawyers always get good money on the auction block.”
