I watched as he withered helplessly on the floor. I couldn’t help

but chuckle as he yelped and kicked at me. I didn’t mean to be so

cruel, but it was a game we played for years. This time however it

seems I had the upper hand. There was no way he was going to

top this one. I may have gone a little too far, but what was really

too far.

Gary and I had been roommates for a couple of years. We met at

college and had a lot in common. One of these things was our evil

sense of humor. We had spent the last two years trying

desperately to one up each other. It all started with a harmless

joke involving whip cream and a feather, but it quickly began to

escalate. We couldn’t seem to help ourselves. Every practical

joke grew more elaborate and crueler than the last. Our girlfriends

completely ignored us when it came to our infantile jokes, but

each was willing to help when it asked to participate.

The pinnacle of jokes came when Gary did something to me that

took hours to rectify. My girlfriend was steaming and I did

everything I could to defuse the situation while Gary and his

girlfriend laughed their asses off.

Gary’s joke began simply. He got his girlfriends younger sister to

text me. He knew I had left my phone at my girlfriend’s house the

night before. He got to text me a steamy sexy message. He knew

my girlfriend would read this and respond. His girls little sister

pulled out all the stops and seemed to grow momentum with

every response my girlfriend posted. After all was said and done

to say I was in the dog house was an understatement.

I got back to her house that night and was met with tears and

barrage of curse words. I was completely dumbfounded. I didn’t

understand what was going on. After she threw my phone at me

and I read the texts, it all became all too clear. I finally got Gary to

confess along with his girlfriend. I sat angrily on the couch and

tried desperately to figure out my revenge. Surprisingly my

girlfriend came up with the solution.

Gary was taking the next step in his relationship and meeting the

parents. I spent the whole day helping him get ready. I made sure

his tie was straight and his shoes were clean. He was more

nervous than I had ever seen him. He looked at himself in the

mirror and checked his breath, it was time to go.

With one good running start I tackled him to the ground. My

girlfriend ran in from the other room and produced the rope and

taped we needed to pull off our ultimate joke. He begged and

screamed for us to get off of him. My girl was a lot stronger than

she looked, and with the both of us on him, he had no chance.

This was going to be the joke to top all jokes. I only hoped that the

consequences would double those I had to face the week before.

We tied his hand tightly behind his back and the joke began. This

was never going to be topped.
