I have to tell you that a nice warm shower felt really good after six days of dodging through airports, trying to humor the $9.35 an hour storm troopers, eating lousy airplane food and getting numbing jet lag like you wouldn't believe. I was just really getting into the really good part of the shower when I was surprised by a voice I didn't want to hear.
“Hello Spider.”
I rubbed the soap out of my eyes and then my heart sunk when I saw Joey D and his big concealed item staring at me in just my nature suit.
“Took me a long time to find you here,” Joey D drawled. “Somebody might think that you didn't want to be found Spider.”
“I was going to come around,” I said quickly while I tried to figure some way out of this. “I just needed a little time to recover from all of that traveling, you know?”
“Yea Spider, I know” Joey D drawled and smiled thinly at the way my skinny body was starting to quiver under his hard eyes.
“I found some rope!” Lemke the Weasel popped into the bathroom, snickered at my nakedness, and then happily showed his found treasure to Joey D.
“Yea, well you know what to do with it.” Joey D cocked his concealed item with a loud click that echoed against the shower stall and pointed the concealed item’s big bore at my head just to remind me of how defenseless I was right now.
Lemke snickered again, grabbed my XXXX hands and quickly tied them together.
“Now where'd you put those stones?” Joey D growled.
“Stones…? What stones?” I tried to play dumb.
“Wrong answer kid!” Joey D grabbed the back of my neck in his big paw and stuffed a dry washcloth deep into my open mouth. Then he grabbed some of the thin rope from Lemke and wrapped it all behind my neck and over my cloth-stuffed mouth tighter and tighter until the dry cloth was wedged all the way in to the back of my throat.
“Turn around Spider. I don’t want to see your lying eyes.” Joey D grabbed my shoulder and turned me around so that my back was to him and then I felt the cold steel of his big concealed item pushing against my neck. “The Boss sent you to Amsterdam to pick up two dozen diamonds. That was ten days ago. Where've you been and what did you do with those stones?”
I shrugged my shoulders and made some animal sounds behind the wash cloth that was beginning to get wet and soggy inside my mouth. How could I tell him the truth? I chickened out and never picked up those diamonds the Boss sent me for. I didn't want to go to jail over there for smuggling. But to make matters worse, I spent all the money those Boss gave me for the stones finding out how much fun Amsterdam could be. Now there was next to nothing left.
“Have a seat kid, you're making me nervous.” Joey D pushed me down onto the floor of the tub and then Lemke snickered happily while his clever hands quickly bound my feet together so tight that I was soon feeling pins and needles in my feet.
“That'll hold you for awhile. Com’ on Lemke, let’s tear this place apart!”
The happy warmth of the shower was gone now and my naked body was beginning to shiver from the cold and the fear that was gnawing at my guts while I sat on the cold porcelain of the tub floor.
Fear shifted into panic and I began twisting and pulling at the tight ropes around my wrists and ankles, desperately wanting to get free of them while I still had a chance. But Lemke the Weasel was too good at tying knots and even wetting the ropes with the water left over in the tub didn't help to make them any looser around my wrists. Out in the other room I could hear all kinds of ripping and crashing sounds while they ripped apart the furniture and tossed it around the room. For a little while that got my hopes up. Maybe the Manager would hear all of the noise and call the police? But then it got quiet again and I looked up to see Joey D standing over me.
“You really disappoint me Spider.”
Joey D pointed his concealed item right at me and my heart stopped.
“But the Boss still wants you alive. Maybe he knows some better ways to get you to talk, heh, heh. All right, on your feet!”
Joey D and Lemke grabbed my cramping body and XXXX me to stand up in the tub while they both moved in really close to my shaking body. I couldn't bear to watch so I shut my eyes and tried to ignore the way Lemke kept snickering in my ear while the re-tied my hands together over the curtain rod. “Yea, that'll hold him. Bring the car around back Lemke, there’s some calls I got to make before we go.”
When I opened my eyes again, they were both gone. I listened intently for a few moments to be sure that they were really gone. Then I studied the fix they had left me in.
One thing about that Lemke was that he really enjoyed playing with his ropes. Now I could see so many wraps and knots around my hands that I hardly knew where to begin to untie them all. Then I wasted several precious minutes trying to work my jaws and to use my tongue to push the washcloth out of my mouth so I could use my teeth on the knots. But by now the wet cloth had swollen up until it was wedged tightly against the walls of my mouth and the ropes tied over it were so tight I couldn't even budge it with my tongue.
What was I going to do? There had to be a way out of this! Desperation seized my body as I began pulling on the ropes and tried to find some way to free my hands from the curtain rod. I even tried pulling the curtain rod down off of the wall while my worried head filled up with all of the stories I had heard about the different ways my Boss had used to get other people to talk. All of them were very painful and most of them left the person in small pieces. I didn't like any of them. I had to get out of here!
What was that? The door was opening. They were coming back!
“Young man, what do you think you are doing?”
It was the motel manager and he looked really upset.
“I want you to know that we don’t allow those kinds of games in this motel, not ever. Oh well, I guess I'd better get the handyman to get you down from there. I don’t know what gets into young people these days.” The manager muttered as he went off to get the handyman.
My heart began to sing and I made all kinds of grateful sounds into the soggy washcloth. I was going to be free! Maybe I could go to Australia? Yea, they had lots of places to hide in Australia. I could make friends with the kangaroos and maybe pet a few wallabies. Yea, I liked that idea. And then maybe…..
