Don't Make Me by JMZ

It was a big misunderstanding. There was nothing I could do or say for that matter. If only he had given me the chance to explain the situation this would never have happened. I tried to do a nice thing and it blew up in my face. This is the last time I ever do a favor for a friend.

My friend Heath was going out of own for a couple of weeks and asked me to stay over at his house to take care of his dog. He had done the same for me many times so I decided to return the favor. Little did I know that it would turn out to be such a mess? He left early on Saturday and I made my way to his house later that day. I walked the dog and helped myself to some food from the fridge. His house was beautiful and well kept. I always envied his view from the back porch and decided to relax and stay in that night. I dozed off early and woke up the next morning to a beautiful day.

I decided to take advantage of the cool breeze coming in from the back porch. I stood and took in the view of the lake and wondered what I would have for breakfast when it happened. I heard the screen door open and in front of me stood an older man carrying a baseball bat. I was startled and a little bit pissed that this guy just walked into my friend’s house without even knocking. I started to rip into this guy when he lifted the bat. I raised my arm in defense but it was no use. I saw a bright light and was out cold.

I slowly began to come to a few hours later. The shock of what had happened consumed me, but as I began to get the focus back in my eyes I was presented with a new shock. I had been securely tied to a dining room chair. My eyes focused on the couch where the old man was petting the dog. “I’ve already called the cops you punk”, he yelled. “What the hell are you MMMMPPPPHHHH”, I started. He placed a bandana tightly between my teeth to shut me up. “Punks should be seen and not heard”, he said. What was happening? I tried frantically to form sentences through my gag but it was useless. It was made more difficult when he secured duct tape around my head to insure complete silence. “MMMPPPHHH”, I screamed. “I’m part of the neighborhood watch and I know for a fact Heath is out of town”, the old fucker explained. “MMMMPPPHHH”, I screamed. “I’ve called the cops and you are in for it now.”

I tried desperately to explain but it was impossible. Little did I know at the time that this old man had a reputation around the neighborhood as a whacked out vigilante. He called the cops on a regular basis for crimes he thought he saw taking place. The neighborhood appreciated his concern even if it annoyed them from time to time. The cops however were not as understanding. They had warned him before and now it seemed as if they were ignoring his calls completely. He stood up and walked outside of the house slamming the door hard. I watched he silhouette pacing back and forth on the porch waiting for the cops that were never coming. I decided I had to do something quick.

I began to assess my situation. He sure knew his way around rope. My wrists were tightly coiled to the chair with rope winding up to my elbows. My bare cold feet had been strung up to each wrist and knotted tightly. I had to get out. I rocked back and forth hoping to free my ankles first. The rope seemed to loosed up a bit as I struggled violently to get free. My unbuttoned shirt fell to the back of the chair exposing my chest to the cold morning air. I pulled forward and back hoping something would give. When this approach didn’t work I decided to hop try and hop the chair to the desk where I saw a pair of scissors. This was a mistake. The chair tipped over and I fell hard on the floor. “MMMPPPHHH”, I screamed in pain. This was the only time I was glad to be gagged, the bandana and tape muffled my scream. I twisted my head to see the old man’s shadow stop. I hoped to God he was not coming back in.
