He was known around the area as quite the philanthropist. He was always willing to give a helping hand when he saw someone in need. Kevin came from a wealthy family, and shared his wealth with the community; he was a stand up guy. Throughout my adolescence he provided me with odd jobs around his place to help me and my Mom out. We barley made ends meet and he was kind enough to let me work for him after school. I was impressed with the way he carried himself and the stories he told about his world travels. I began to look up to him more as big brother than my boss. I trusted Kevin and he seemed to like me. My Mom worked late shifts and he took upon himself to watch after me during those long nights. I had no other male figure in my life so it was nice to have someone like him around. My Mom always appreciated his kindness and generosity. She constantly thanked him for giving me a job and looking after me. My senior year of high school went by fast. I had received a scholarship to college and I was on cloud nine. My friends and I decided to take a camping trip before the end of summer to celebrate. The trip was a disaster. It rained the whole time and we decided to cut it short. My friends dropped me off at home and I made my way through the door. I put my things down and went to the kitchen to get a snack when I heard faint talking in the hallway. It was my Mom and Kevin. What was he doing here this time of the morning? I watched as they talked softly, then to my betrayal watched as Kevin kissed my Mom full on lips. I stood shocked and dazed. How long had this been going on? Was he only being good to us because he was XXXX with my Mom? I felt my entire world begin to crumble. My mom left for work and I followed him into the living room. He turned to face me and his eyes widened. “Jake let me”, he started. I tackled him to the ground and bumped his head on the floor. He lay there out cold. I raised my fist to punch him but quickly got a hold of myself. I ran to the garage and grabbed some rope and duct tape. I walked towards him cautiously and began to tie him up. I wrapped the black rope around his wrists in a knot he taught me when I was in boy scouts. He came to just as I was finishing up on his wrists. I slapped duct tape over his mouth before he could say a word. He looked at me with fear in his eyes. I round the rope over his thighs and ankles restricting him further. He struggled and yelled through his gag. I watched as he trashed his body back and forth trying to break free. I felt so betrayed. He stopped to catch his breath and he began and explanation from behind his sealed lips. He pleaded with unintelligible words. I was not having any of it. I sat and watched he struggled to loosen the knots; his face was reddened with exhaustion. Just as I was about to rip the tape from his mouth the door swung open and my Mom stood there horrified. She walked up to me and slapped me. The slap brought me right back to reality. She kneeled down next to Kevin and gently peeled the tape from his mouth. She untied him as I stood there with tears in my eyes. After a few moments he was free and he began his explanation. They had reached out to each other after realizing I would be leaving home soon, and in doing so feelings had developed. I was such a jackass. I felt like such a fool. In fact in time I became excited about the prospect of the two of them together, of course it didn’t hurt that he bought me a new a car for my graduation present.
